Today, heralds a new chapter in the annals of history as representatives of 36 high schools sponsored by the Diocese of Mt. Kenya South celebrated their very first Education Day at Senior Chief Koinange Girls High School.
The Diocesan High Schools Education Day themed, 'wholesome education for a wholesome nation,' is the brainchild of The Sixth Mt. Kenya South Rt. Rev'd Canon Charles Muturi.
The exemplary ceremony was convened by the Department of Education and Trainings Chairman Ven. Dr. Richard Kamau and the Director Rev'd Jeremiah Muchoki, DYO Rev'd George Karuku, assisted by Chaplains and Principals of the Diocesan sponsored High Schools.
"It doesn't matter where you come from or what you have gone through in the past. Education is potent enough to make the difference and safeguard the future."
The Director of Teacher Management Teachers Service Comission Madam Antonina Naitoti, who was the guest speaker, urged hundreds of students.
"The Church is the cornerstone of the community. Its supportive role, especially in mentorship and in cementing unity and cohesion in the education sector, is invaluable in bringing a sense of purpose and all roundedness."
A statement she delivered on behalf of the Teachers Service Comission CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia exemplified.
Rev'd Jeremiah shared 4 things that lead us to wisdom in his sermonette to a 95% Gen Zee audience in a language synonymous with them:
1. Jipange - organise yourself
2. Jijaze - strengthen yourself
3. Jijue - understand yourself
4. Ji-inue - aim for a better you
"A good education to the mind and soul is the equivalent of a consisted balanced diet to the body; it is an all rounded development of an individual. It is all about learning, especially how to be happy even as we care for others whilst nurturing the next generation and accepting inevitable change." Bishop Charles proclaimed in his key note address.
They were hosted by Senior Chief Koinange Girls High School Principal Madam Esther Njambi Maina, Chaplain Rev'd Joyce Githinji and BOM Chairman Rev'd Dr. Humphrey Waweru.
Various schools were celebrated in a prize-giving ceremony.
