A solemn mood engulfed _All Saints Cathedral Nairobi,_ as friends and family of the Wanjigi's gathered for a Memorial Service of the Late Hon. Maina Wanjigi, who went to be with the Lord earlier.
The memorial service was graced by The Sixth Mt. Kenya South Rt. Rev'd Canon Charles Muturi, Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev'd Peter Njenga and hosted by All Saints Provost Very Rev'd Canon Evans Omollo.
Rev'd Steve Muhoho and Rev'd Oliver Gacheru were in attendance.
Family members led by Mama Wangeci and Mr. Jimmy Wanjigi eulogized their patriarch as a _'shepherd in pursuit of virtue'._
Similarly, members of the political class hailed the veteran politician as an unshakable trailblazer who did what is right and minced not his words.
"God is in control, even when issues seem overwhelming or we are in our lowest, it is The Lord who caringly carries us to safety.
Don't dig pitfalls for others. Plan not for the downfall of your fellow man. Guard your name at all costs. Ensure your character is beyond reproach._ *Our name and character are not only worth more than riches, they live on even after we are long gone."*
Bishop Charles fortified the hearts of mourners.
Hon. Wanjigi will be laid to rest on Friday in Kianjoya in Nyeri County.
During a visit to Hawaii after independence, Hon. Wanjigi came across macadamia nuts. It is recorded that he was the first individual to introduce macadamia to this side of the continent after he personally smuggled them in the country via a suitcase due to the draconian crop laws in the country at the time.
