As dawn broke in a golden sunrise upon the Great Rift Valley, Christians from all reaches of the ACK Diocese of Mt. Kenya South had already assembled behind the gates leading to Mt. Longonot in throngs almost overwhelming the park staff.

From the foot of the mountain right through to its apex, Mt. Longonot was today dotted with a 1,400-strong, Diocesan army of prayer warriors led by The Sixth Mt. Kenya South, Rt. Rev'd Canon Charles Muturi. There sole mission was to intercede and present the Diocesan Extra Mile 3 Shiloh Prayer items to The Lord.

A quorum of Priests, Evangelists, Lay-Readers, the elderly, youth, men, women, and children, some in nursery school and others upon their mother's back, snaked along steep dusty meandering paths.

Ones at the summit, where the picturesque scenery unfolds as far as the eye can see and the cool gentle breeze soothes the sense of touch, the assemblage settled down for a Holy Communion Service at a lofty elevation of 2,677m above sea level.
"Sin may look enjoyable, but its consequences are guaranteed and far-reaching. Therefore, to whom brains are given, sense is without a doubt expected." Bishop Charles Muturi reasoned with the multitude in his sermon on the mount.

The Longonot declaration was derived from Romans 12:21, "Do not be overcome by evil, instead overcome evil by doing good!"

The Service was led by The Provost, Very Rev'd Canon Geoffrey Mungai, assisted by Ven. Canon Perminus Muiru, Ven. Samson Kakunyi, Assistant Provost Rev'd Ann Mwaura, Rev'd Michael Ng'ang'a and Rev'd Capt. David Tiges. A good number of Area Deans and the Chairman of Laity Sir. Ken Wamitho were present.

The one-of-a-kind service characterised by a session of personal prayers, uplifting praises, and knee bending worship culminated in the incineration of the extra mile 3 envelopes.

The Bishop thanked Christians across the Diocese for owning and building their Grand Cathedral, which will be consecrated on 17th August 2024.

Hundreds went further to circle the 1.8km Longonot crater before descending; while others made their way down with hearty songs upon their lips. All participants had lunch courtesy of ACK St. James Cathedral, Kiambu.
