Rt. Rev Bishop Charles Munene Muturi was born in Uthiru on 30 April, 1962. He is the third born of the late Edward Muturi and Mrs. Ruth Wanjiku. He received the Lord as his personal Savior in 1980. In 1984, he joined the Church Army College now Carlile College and graduated in 1985. Over the years, he has attained numerous academic qualifications including a Bachelor's Degree in Bible and Theology from Bethany Christian College in 2005. Upon graduating from Berea Institute in 1994, he was posted to Muongoiya Parish as a deacon marking his official entry into Church Ministry of the then Church of the Province of Kenya (CPK).

He was ordained to priesthood in 1995 and served at Kihara Parish and later in Kangemi Parish where he was made the Rural Dean in 1999.

In recognition of his valuable and faithful service to the Church, the then Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Peter Njenga collated him as a Canon of the Anglican Church in 2001. In 2004, Canon Charles was transferred to ACK St James Cathedral in Kiambu Town as the Archdeacon and shortly after became the Provost. A notable achievement was his appointment as the first Assistant Bishop in the history of the Diocese by the retired Bishop Rt. Rev. Timothy Ranji in October 2010. His consecration was graced by The Most Rev. Eliud Wabukala, the then Primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya and witnessed by 17 bishops, numerous clergy and thousands of Christians. He served faithfully under the Diocesan Bishop more so as the head of Bishop Kariuki Training College Wangige

In 31st August 2019, he was elected as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Mt. Kenya South. He was enthroned on 20th December 2019 by the sixth Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya the Most Reverend Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit in a service attended by 34 Bishops from Kenya and beyond and witnessed by a multitude of clergy and Christians.

His contribution to the Anglican Church in Kenya is notable. He was appointed as the Provincial Kenya Anglican Youth Organization (KAYO) Chairperson by Retired Archbishop, His Grace, Eliud Wabukala in 2012 a position he continues to hold. He is also a member of the Provincial Board of Missions. Bishop Charles has been immensely active in the education sector.

He is the Chairman of the Board of St. Timothy Anglican Divinity College at Kagira. He is also the Chairperson of St Paul's University Staff Pension Committee and a trustee at the University Council. A firm believer in transformative, sustainable Church leadership, Bishop Charles has a keen interest in socio-economic development.

This is evident in the indelible mark left in all parishes and centers he has served. He has been at the center of Save the Boy-Child Campaign for many years now, his slogan has always been, 'It is easier to build a boy than repair a man' The duo was consecrated and enthroned on 18th July 2004 and 31st October 2010 respectively. Bishop Ranji retired in 2019, leaving the reigns to Bishop Muturi who was enthroned on the 20th of December 2019

Bishop Charles is also a gifted speaker and proficient trainer, this has seen him travel to over 36 destinations worldwide for retreats, trainings, conferences. He is the author of 'Basic Anglicanism' which was published in 2012 and has sold over 10,000 copies. He was instrumental in the preparation and production of two other publications A Centenary of God's Household: Diocese of Mt. Kenya South, 1900-2000 (2001) and ACK Diocese of Mt. Kenya South Supplementary Prayer Book I and II (2017).

Also a passionate Liturgist, Bishop Charles has chaired the Liturgical Committee for many years in the Diocese. He has been recently appointed by His Grace the Archbishop to Chair the Provincial Liturgical Committee. Bishop Charles is married to Lucy Wanjiku Muchene. She is an experienced Property Manager working with Kenya RE for many years though she has since retired. She is also a Psychology graduate. By God's grace they are blessed with Victoria Wanjiku Muchene, a lawyer, Ebenezer Muturi Muchene, a civil engineer and Francis Chege, a physician.
