Thanksgiving & Dedication Service at ACK St. James Tiikaya

A joyful day of worship, thanksgiving, dedication, Holy Communion, and commissioning, led by the 6th Bishop of Mt. Kenya South Diocese, the Rt. Rev’d Canon Charles M. Muturi.

A Day of Thanksgiving and Celebration

Christians of ACK St. James Tiikaya gathered for a joyous service of dedication and thanksgiving presided over by the 6th Bishop of Mt. Kenya South Diocese, the Rt. Rev’d Canon Charles M. Muturi. The congregation came together to celebrate God’s faithfulness and to give thanks for the successful completion of several church development projects.

Before the main service, Bishop Charles held a special session with the children, teens, and youth. Reflecting on the Book of Jonah, he encouraged the young people to remain faithful to God’s calling and to trust Him in every season of their lives.

Dedication of Church Development Projects

The congregation witnessed the dedication of the church gate, perimeter wall, cabro-paved compound, and altar. These projects were completed through the dedicated efforts of the Development Committee under the patronage of Mr. George Gacheru Mungai (Gachewa Motors) and his spouse, Rev’d Lucy Gacheru.

With grateful hearts, members thanked God for His grace, provision, and faithfulness that enabled the successful completion of these important developments.

The Message: Fleeing from Opportunities

The service was led by Rev’d Joseph Kihianyu. During his sermon, Bishop Charles reflected on the Diocese’s June theme, “Fleeing from Opportunities”, drawn from the Book of Jonah.

“God continually presents opportunities for growth, service, and transformation. Yet, like Jonah, many people sometimes run away from God’s calling because of fear, doubt, or the challenges that lie ahead.”

The Bishop recounted Jonah’s attempt to flee from God’s presence, emphasizing that no one can hide from God. He reminded the congregation that God sees all things and knows the intentions of every heart.

He further explained that when people fall into sin or make mistakes, the pathway to restoration is through confession and repentance, just as Jonah acknowledged his wrongdoing before God.

Bishop Charles encouraged Christians to embrace every opportunity God places before them. He noted that growth often comes through difficult assignments and warned against choosing easier paths simply to avoid challenges.

Christians were encouraged to pray boldly, dream big, and trust God completely, remembering that what is impossible with human beings is possible with God.

He challenged the Vicar and members of ACK St. James Tiikaya to consider establishing a Children, Teens, and Youth Centre to nurture future generations in Christian faith and discipleship.

Drawing lessons from Jonah’s attitude, the Bishop warned against developing a careless or indifferent spirit toward God’s work. He encouraged believers to remain committed to God’s purposes, stay on the right path, and never give up in serving the Lord.

Special Guests and Holy Communion

Also in attendance was the Diocesan Mothers’ Union President, Mrs. Lucy Muchene.

The sermon was followed by a Holy Communion Service, during which the congregation shared together in worship and fellowship.

During the service, two men were commissioned into the Kenya Anglican Men’s Association (KAMA), marking an important milestone in their commitment to Christian service and ministry.

A Fitting Conclusion

The day concluded with a thanksgiving service where members of the congregation presented their gifts in gratitude to God. Each worshipper had a unique reason to thank God for His goodness, faithfulness, protection, and abundant blessings.
